DAY 1: TRANSFER FROM THE TERMINAL TO OUR OFFICE (PUERTO MALDONADO)

At 9:30 a.m., after picking you up at the terminal, we will go to the office and then to the main port. We will take a 40-minute boat ride down the Madre de Dios River to our lodge. Upon arrival, we will hike through the jungle to learn about medicinal plants and, if we are lucky, spot monkeys, birds, and insects. We will also observe ancient trees while learning about the region’s economic activities. After lunch, at 3:30 p.m., we will enjoy a kayak tour on the river, an excellent opportunity to explore more of nature and see butterflies. We will visit Monkey Island, where we can interact with the monkeys. At 6:30 p.m., we will undertake a night search for caimans, observing their glowing eyes and other nocturnal species such as capybaras and armadillos. We will end the day with dinner on the banks of the river, and if the sky is clear, we will enjoy the moonrise, creating a unique experience.

DAY 2: TAMBOPATA NATIONAL RESERVE

After breakfast at 5:00 a.m., we will head to Sandoval Lake, the Tambopata National Reserve. This lake, surrounded by rich biodiversity, is accessible after a 50-minute walk. On the way, we will pass by the palm lick, where macaws gather to lick minerals. Upon arrival, we can observe various species, such as monkeys, turtles, black caimans, giant otters, and birds, such as toucans and the hoatzin. Our local guide will explain the ecosystems surrounding the lake.

We will enjoy lunch at 1:00 p.m., and in the afternoon, at 3:30 p.m., we will practice sport fishing in the river, where we might catch local species such as piranhas and catfish.

At 6:30 p.m., we will take a night walk to explore the jungle from a new perspective. We will observe insects and reptiles, such as snakes and the camouflaged plica lizard, while enjoying the sounds of the jungle.

We will have dinner at 7:30 p.m., and at 8:30 p.m., we can enjoy a campfire, share stories about the rainforest, and learn how to make fire in the dark.

DAY 3: TAMBOPATA - PUERTO MALDONADO - CUSCO

At 8:00 a.m., we start with breakfast. Then, we head out to explore the tapir trail, which will take us to an area of aguaje palm trees, a favorite place for these animals due to the wild fruits that grow there. This is a humid environment, ideal for observing the tracks of other animals. During this walk, which is approximately 3 hours, we will have the opportunity to see wild pigs, some rodents, and toucans. After tasting our lunch, we will return to Puerto Maldonado to take the transportation to Cusco.
