Upon arrival at the Iquitos International Airport, our representatives will meet you at the baggage area, assist you, and transfer you to our office in the city. From there, we will take you to the Enapu Port to board one of our fast boats that will take you to the lodge through the Amazon River. On the way, you will observe the convergence of the murky waters of the Amazon with the dark waters of the Nanay River and enjoy the beautiful landscapes of the Peruvian jungle, with the tiny rural houses on the banks of the rivers.
We will visit Monkey Island, a refuge for species, where you will learn about conservation efforts and the process of reintegrating primates into their natural habitat. Afterward, we will continue our boat ride for approximately 60 minutes. Upon arrival at the lodge, you will be greeted with a refreshing regional fruit juice. Afterward, you will check in and settle into your room before enjoying a delicious Amazonian lunch.
In the afternoon, you will take a two-hour botanical walk through the Yanacona Reserve, where our guides will teach you to identify various species of flora, such as heliconias, medicinal plants, and giant trees. At nightfall, we will take a night boat ride on one of the unlit tributaries of the Amazon, enjoying the tranquility and sounds of the jungle. We will return to the lodge for dinner and rest, ready to continue our activities at dawn.
We will start the day with a bird-watching excursion, leaving early in the morning by boat to a creek where you can see many species, such as the Tuki, Ringed Kingfisher, and Black-Collared Hawk. Afterward, we will return to the lodge for an energizing breakfast and a short rest. Afterwards, we will visit the Los Yaguas Native Community, where you will learn about their customs and participate in using the “pucuna”, a traditional hunting tool.
We will enjoy an artisanal fishing experience in one of the Amazon River’s tributaries in the afternoon. We will learn local techniques and fish for piranhas. If the fishing is successful, what we catch will be prepared for lunch. Later, we will head out in search of pink and gray Amazon dolphins, a unique opportunity to see these fascinating animals.
We will walk through the jungle at nightfall, exploring the nocturnal fauna, such as frogs, snakes, and other animals that only show themselves in the dark. We will listen to the sounds of insects, birds, and felines. Finally, we will return to the lodge to enjoy dinner and rest, ready for another day of adventures.
Before the tour, we will begin the day with a delicious breakfast to observe the impressive Victoria Amazonica, Victoria Regia. These majestic aquatic flowers, native to the Amazon River basin, grow in lakes and swamps. They are often seen on their first day of blooming white, turning pink on the second day. The flowers can reach up to 40 cm in diameter and are pollinated by beetles. The plant is famous for its vast circular leaf, often illustrated with a child sitting in the center to highlight its size and strength.
Then, we will return to the lodge to enjoy a delicious lunch. Afterward, we will proceed with the check-out and head to Iquitos. Depending on the time of your flight back to Lima, we will transfer you to the airport.
