Arequipa, known as the “White City”, is an important tourist destination in Perú, famous for its colonial architecture of sillar stone and surrounded by imposing volcanoes such as Misti. Its historic center, a World Heritage Site, is home to emblematic sites such as the Plaza de Armas and the Santa Catalina Convent. The local gastronomy, which includes dishes such as rocoto relleno (stuffed red pepper), is another outstanding attraction. Arequipa is also the starting point for exploring the Colca Canyon, which is ideal for condor watching and outdoor activities.
